Washington, D.C. — Alongside several other fossil fuel executives and Big Oil shills already confirmed or nominated to serve in his administration, Donald Trump has nominated Kathleen Sgamma to head the Bureau of Land Management—an agency within the Department of Interior which governs administering U.S. federal lands.

In response, Unlocking America’s Future Spokesperson Kyle Herrig said the following:

“With this latest nomination, Donald Trump has once again made it abundantly clear that his administration will prioritize the profits of Big Oil over the interests of the American people. Kathleen Sgamma has spent her career lobbying for fossil fuel companies and pushing to exploit our public lands for corporate gain at a time when we should be investing in a clean energy economy. The Senate must reject this attempt to hand the keys to the very agency responsible for protecting our public lands to someone who will sell them off to the highest bidder.”

Additional Background:

  • From E&E News: “Sgamma’s oil and gas trade group has long advocated for greater industry access to public lands and less regulation of oil and gas and mining interests.”
  • From Bloomberg Law: “As president of Denver-based WEA since 2006, Sgamma represented and advocated for oil and gas producers that operate on federal lands in the West.”
