This week in responsible investing, climate change-driven disasters are costing American businesses and local economies. More on that below:
Natural disasters related to climate change continue to harm businesses and local economies.
From UAF’s statement: “As natural disasters drive devastation across the southern United States, business owners are concerned about the impacts to their bottom lines,” said Kyle Herrig, spokesperson for Unlocking America’s Future. “The American people deserve access to climate risk information so they can make informed business decisions, plan for the future, and protect their communities and customers.”
Small business owners said they are affected by weather disasters in a nationwide survey.
From UAF’s ICYMI: Scripps News reported on the recent survey conducted by Small Business for America’s Future regarding the potential economic costs climate events like floods, fires, and extreme heat could have on their members’ bottom lines.
A new poll from Global Strategy Group and SEC Newgate found a majority of Americans say companies can be profitable while also performing well on ESG issues.
The poll, first reported by Politico, shows that a majority of women (74%) and men (64%) in America say that companies can be profitable while also performing well on ESG issues, and 71% of Americans say companies should act in the best interest of all stakeholders, not just shareholders.
A group of investors are pressuring states to enforce the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s methane emission standards.
From Pensions & Investments: “As energy customers, investors and regulators around the world increasingly demand cleaner energy, failure to cut methane emissions could damage American companies’ competitive access to global markets at a time when exports play an important role in the U.S. economy and to the energy industry.”
